Brashear at Marion County December 17, 2007

The Tigers and Mustangs split a pair on non-conference games.

In a hard-fought girls game, the Marion County Lady Mustangs came out pressing hard and held the Lady Tigers to a single free throw to go up 7-1 at the end of the 1st quarter. Marion County extended their lead to 9-2 before the Lady Tigers had a small run to close within 9-8. The Lady Mustangs continued to pile up fouls in their hard-pressing defense, going into halftime with a 19-11 lead, but with 3 starters with either 2 or 3 fouls while Brashear had only 4 fouls total on their starters. The 2nd half saw Marion County again come out pressuring hard, but managing to avoid what looked like inevitable foul trouble as they extended their lead to 27-14 after 3 quarters. The difference was like black and white for Brashear as they were assessed with 16 second-half fouls putting 2 starters on the bench for a large part of the 4th quarter as Marion County held on for the 38-24 win. Hailee Kelsey led Brashear scoring with 8 points, Christina Scudder had 6, Caroline Slavin had 5, Stephanie Elsea and Jessi Hill had 2 points each, and Emily Ladwig scored 1 point. For Marion County, Jenny Mitchell had 11, Skylar Neisen added 7, Morgan Spratt and Ranay Sharpe had 6 each, Kayla Bridgman had 5 points, and Kelsey Tuley scored 3 points.

The boy's contest was also a "black and blue" affair, but with a different outcome as the Brashear squad overcame a 10-2 1st quarter deficit to to pull within 15-9 after 1 quarter and to go into halftime down only 27-25. The 3rd quarter saw the Tigers outscore Marion County 16-6 to go up 41-33 and Brashear extended the lead again in the 4th on their way to a 58-44 win. Justin Hazen led the Brashear scoring with 20 points, Kale Watson was also in double figures with 14, Jacob Shipman added 7, Ryan Ferdig had 6, Kiley Watson and Trae Treasure each scored 4, and Matt Thomas had 3 points. For Marion County, Justin Tobias had 12 points, Ryan Sharpe added 10, Dakota Bainter had 8 points, Josh Hirner and Austin Redd had 6 points each, and Ben Hirner scored 2 points.
